This is one of many lawsuits they have received over Emotes
Epic Games has once again found themselves in a lawsuit. This time with Youtuber and Choreographer Kyle Hanagami who claims that the 'It's Complicated' emote is taken from his original copyrighted choreography. The only thing complicated about this emote are the legal issues…
Although the emote was introduced to Fortnite in August of 2022, Hanagami's moves date far back to 2017. He even went as far as receiving a court order to remove it from the game completely, along with legal fees and unspecified compensation.
This isn't the first time Epic has experienced this, as various other celebrities/creators have claimed after previous emotes such as:
Fresh Prince of Bel Air Actor Alfonso Ribeiro - Carlton Dance
Backpack Kid - Floss Dance
2 Milly - Milly Rock
Donald Faison - Default Dance
These are just a few of the many public figures who have filed against Epic Games. It seems as if Fortnite is just getting used to these lawsuits and don't take any precautions to prevent them. Do you see Kyle Hanagami winning this claim?
