Esport is growing at such a fast rate, Sony wants to be more apart of it.
A big investment has been made by Sony. The company is acquiring repeat.gg, an esports tournament platform. With over 100,000 tournaments put on with over 2.3 million participants featuring popular games such as Fortnite, League of Legends, and Call of Duty Warzone.
“Together with the talented Repeat.gg team, we’re excited to explore more ways for players to engage in competitive gaming and expand the breadth of our esports offerings,” Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Steven Roberts said to GamesIndustry.biz. “This is just the start of our journey and we look forward to sharing more updates with our community in the future.”
With this deal in play Repeat.gg will have more access to more resources, game titles, and technology.
We can only imagine how this acquisition will open up many more opportunities for competitive players around the country. This emerging growth that the esports field is experiencing is leading more and more players into the field, and a lot of companies and businesses seem to want to be apart of it.
The Repeat.gg acquisition follows Sony's purchase of the prestigious esports tournament Evo in partnership with RTS last year. The company also already hosts its own tournaments through the Playstation Tournaments platform.
Very excited to see the future of this acquisition. Esports on the rise, we love to see it!
