Video games are linked to a boost in intelligence in children
We’ve heard it all throughout our entire lives, “video games contaminate the minds of our children” or “video games won’t make our kids smarter “ Well, studies are coming to surface proving those statements otherwise.
Video games have been an outlet for children and teens all over the country. It's a stress reliever, it allows the player to take their minds off of what's going on in the world. In a study published in the Scientific Reports journal, the researchers stated that digital media "defines modern childhood." although its cognitive impacts are unclear and heatedly debated.
"Our results support the claim that screen time generally doesn't impair children's cognitive abilities, and that playing video games can actually help boost intelligence," says neuroscientist Torkel Klingberg, from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
What's interesting is that there was a conclusion that high levels of watching TV and videos, or socializing online, was slightly linked to lower levels of intelligence at the foundation. A statement supporting the increase in IQ with children playing video games stated, children showed the most gains in intelligence after two years in both boys and girls who regularly played video games and for those who didn't.
Screen time as a whole is always linked to having a negative influence on a child's development. The world of media and gaming is opening up so much more now, new opportunities and lots successful entrepreneurs have had a childhood of growing up on video games. If we can't take that into account when it comes to the development of our future then it would be unfair to say it affects the youth as a whole.
