Players haven't been playing with the agents for a while now
Valorant developers have confirmed that buffs on Cypher and Phoenix are underway in a recent Reddit AMA. The two agents haven't been selected for some while now with pick percents as low as 13 percent. During the AMA many players had questions and Valorants Character Team came together to touch on characters and game balancing.
Cypher and Phoenix are two of the older agents in the game and the pair is among the weakest when compared to new agents in the game. In motion of this being brought to life, statements have even been said as to "who even plays Phoenix anymore"11z. It's wild considering the characters are OG's in the game.
During the AMA, when asked about if there were any plans to buff Phoenix, character producer John Goscicki shared that "Upfront, yes, we are working on Phoenix, but it is too early for us to talk about details of what it may entail."
Goscicki continues, "Right now, we want to take the time to explore everything between number tweaks to to something more. Unfortunately, we do not have a solid ETA on that, and we want to take the time to find the right long term place for Phoenix."
"Cypher is in a similar situation [to Phoenix]. We aren't prepared to share details or dates, but he is definitely on our radar," says agent designer Jay Watford.
It's not surprising that Riot is aware of the spectrums of it's players. It would be more surprising if they weren't honestly. With those statements being said about the two, in near future Valorant players can possibly hope to see a rise on the two agents.
