After launching less than two years ago Ubisoft has decided to shut down their Battle Royale title Hyper Scape. Although it saw major success during beta, it quickly died due to it's complexity, different style, and fast paced gameplay. At beta launch (July 12, 2020) streamers like Ninja, Tfue, Dr. Lupo, and SypherPK were pushing out content leading to a raid rise in popularity. The community loved the game and everyone was talking about Hyper Scape, but by open launch, just three weeks later, the player base quickly fell off.

Too Complex- The game was way too complex at launch for the average player. It's vertical playstyle along with the nine unique abilities around the map to grab, players thought it was just too much, Ubisoft tried to make it too unique making it confusing for anyone trying the game for the first time.

Too Unique- Though some of the unique features of Hyper Scape, like its zone feature, were nice to have, other things like the crown rush feature were not as well received. To elaborate, in Hyper Scape instead of a zone, different sectors of the city would just disappear or "collapse", allowing you to run straight to the zone, and not have to worry about buildings getting in your way. On the other hand, something fans were not enjoying was after the collapse of the final sector a crown appears on the map and all remaining players try to rush and grab it. Whoever gets it has to hold it for 60 seconds, and that player wins, but all players can see their location, and everyone really just wanted a last man standing style.

Too Fast Paced- Hyper Scape was easily one of the most fast paced battle royale games, an intentional move from developers. Devs wanted a battle royale with less looting and more fighting, but it was just a little too fast paced. Abilities in the game would allow you to fly up in the air and slam down on enemies, teleport, get in a hamster balls and bounce around. It instantly turn invincible. You could double jump, climb walls, and there was no fall damage. All of these features combined with many more made it really hard for the average player to play the game, ultimately leading to its demise.

An article published by Ubisoft on their website states:

"Contenders,

We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28th. We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products.

To the Hyper Scape community, thank you for your passion and dedication to the world of Neo Arcadia both inside and outside of the game. Your devotion to the game we built will always be cherished.

Reach out to us if you have questions.

Sincerely, Hyper Scape"

Hyper Scape will be shutting down April 28th, 2022.
