If PlayStation or Xbox wants to lose customers and players, this is the way to do it
It seems like we already get enough ads on platforms such as Youtube, Twitch, Websites, and even social media platforms such as Instagram and Tik Tok. But now, Playstation is considering running ads on free-to-play games. What an awe it would be to be prompted with an ad in order to continue playing a game.
According to a Business Insider report, Sony is looking to run ads inside Playstation games in a way that feels natural to players. Business Insider recently announced that Microsoft was looking at a way to incorporate ads into games. While those plans are in thought both companies still want to keep consumers user experience as natural as possible.
Some people are wondering and worrying if the persistence of the ads will be similar to that of YouTube or free-to-play mobile games. YouTube usually has about two ads play back to back and then allows you to skip once five seconds of the ad has passed. In free-to-play mobile games the ads usually pops up after a round of playing the game and it'll begin once a player dies or they have to restart their process again.
Sony wants to make sure that personal information such as your name, email address, will not be collected through the advertisements. The plan was to roll this plan out by the end of 2022.
Everyone is asking if Sony is making the right move with in-game ads. Sony is looking to encourage developers to continue making free-to-play games with the move. We think we should all prepare for a different feel in our gameplay soon.
