Due to the use of the homophobic "f" slur against Team Liquid
It's known to the world that competitive gaming can get heated and almost anything can and will be said out of frustration or even out of pride. Well this past Wednesday esports teams XSET and Team Liquid went up against each other in a wild competitive match of Rainbow Six Siege.
The Rainbow Six Charlotte Major brought together the best Siege teams in the world to fight for their share of the $500k prize pool.
XSET was one of 8 teams that qualified for playoffs, with their quarter-final matchup against Astralis mere hours away when news broke.
Before the first day of playoffs got underway, the Rainbow Six Esports account announced a competitive ruling against Budega, handing him him a 12-month suspension and a $5,000 fine.
Check out the tweet here:
According to Budega, he did not get the chance to defend himself nor did he receive any information of about the outcome of the matter through a phone call or text message. In the aftermath of this happening fans have come forth asking Rainbow Six to give punishments to other esports players who've said things verbally demoralizing.
Check out Budega's response here:
A one year ban seems like a bit much, it may be possible that Rainbow can reduce some of the time. When gaming competitively everything is put out on the floor, but maybe Budega would need to initiate a formal apology and make light of his intentions during the incident.
